Smiling Faces of MassKara

Posted in Culture by MZaidee

If you are a Filipino, you might be well aware of the MassKara Festival held every October in Bacolod City, Philippines.

The MassKara Festival is a celebration which has earned Bacolod the title “City of Smiles”. The word “MassKara” was coined from the two words “mass” which means “many or a multitude of the people” and the Spanish “kara” meaning “face”. The mask worn by the participants during the parade are always smiling. MassKara thus means “a multitude of the smiling faces.”
