Malaysia Will Take the Grid in the 2010 F1 Season with Its Own Team

Posted in Sport by MZaidee

The Formula One Federation (FIA) has accepted Malaysia’s bid to enter the 2010 and future FIA F1 World Championships, which will see the country’s participation via its own racing team - 1Malaysia F1 Team.

The 1Malaysia F1 Team is a government and private sector initiative, combining the collaborative experience of Malaysian Automakers - Proton and Lotus, coupled with world-class expertise, and backed by Sepang International Circuit (SIC), Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) as well as Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) to compete in F1 for the standard contractual period of 10 years. This partnership is further enhanced with the proven capabilities of a group of highly respected Malaysian entrepreneurial investors consisting of Kamarudin Meranun and Tony Fernandes of AirAsia, and SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin of NAZA.

The team will be based at Sepang International Circuit - where the cars will be designed, manufactured and tested, making this the first team to be located outside of Europe and only the second, to Ferrari, to have a race track 200 meters from their front door. These cars will be “Made in Malaysia, by Malaysians.”

“1Malaysia F1 Team will fly our colors on the world stage and be the product of our engineers, our universities, our hi-tech centers of excellence,” the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak explained. To date two local universities, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, have already been engaged to participate, as has Composites Technology Research Malaysia, a leading composites manufacturing expert, with further announcements on both the sponsorship and technical side expected in the coming days.

Malaysia has been involved in Formula One since 1999 through Sepang circuit, which has been on the race calendar since and will host the 11th F1 Petronas Malaysian GP next year. PETRONAS, a Malaysian owned oil and gas company, has made further advancements in this arena via its sponsorship of the BMW Sauber team for the last four years, so the setting up of a national team, as envisioned by the Prime Minister, is a natural progression to increase the country’s returns from investments in Formula One.

The 1Malaysia F1 Team takes its name from the ‘1Malaysia - People First, Performance Now’ policy mooted by the Prime Minister in June this year as the unifying foundation for all Malaysians to come together in celebrating the co-operation amongst its multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religious society for the betterment of the nation.

I believe the team has all the ingredients to succeed. You’ll see!

The “Shanghai Shake” - Yao Ming

Posted in Sport by MZaidee

Yao Ming

Yao Ming is probably China’s most famous sports star. He plays basketball for the China national team and for the Houston Rockets in the United States. He is currently the tallest player in the NBA, measuring 2.29 meters. Yao has been China’s richest celebrity for over five years and has helped Chinese-US relations.

Yao Ming was born in Shanghai on September 21, 1980. His mother was the center and captain of the Chinese National Women’s Team. His father played basketball, too.

Yao started playing basketball when he was nine and joined the Shanghai Sharks at 13. He played on their senior team for five years and won the Chinese championship. In 2002, he became the first international player ever to be selected as the number one pick of rookies. China gave permission for Yao to play in the USA on the morning of the draft.

He is a huge success in the United States and has signed many major sponsorship deals. He has played in the NBA All-Star Game in all of his seasons with Houston. In 2007, Yao played against his fellow Chinese player Yi Jianlian for the first time. Over 200 million people in China tuned in, making it one of the most-watched basketball games ever.

Yao is married to Ye Li, a former player for China’s national team. In 2004, he carried the Chinese flag during the opening ceremony of the Olympics, which he said was a “long dream come true”. He also does a great deal for charity. After the 2008 China earthquake, he donated $2 million dollars and created a foundation to help rebuild schools.

Malaysia Leads The Pack

Posted in Sport by MZaidee

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport

It was a perfect start to the forth season of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport for A1 Team Malaysia in Zandvoort, Netherlands.

Fairuz Fauzy and the Malaysian A1GP dominated the Sprint race and won second place in the Feature race, coping with torrential rain, in the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari car, to take the first spoils and claim an excellent maiden win of the season for Malaysia.

Launched in March 2004, the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport is more than just another racing phenomenon; it’s an entirely new concept. Pitting driver against driver and country against country for the first time in history, A1GP brings together 23 nations to compete as equals, without financial or technological advantage. Different from Formula 1 cars, all A1GP cars came with same specifications and configurations.

Malaysian Athletes Are Losers

Posted in Sport by MZaidee

I felt sending 33 athletes to Beijing Olympic is a waste. Since we spent lots of money on these athletes, everyone is hoping for them to bring at least one gold medal.

For your information, we never won any gold medal in Olympic Games (Don’t laugh!). We just ended up with one silver medal – it’s from world’s number 2 badminton player – Lee Chong Wei.

We hope Michael Phelps is a Malaysian. So next time, we just need to send him alone and bring back 8 gold medals – he is amazing.
