Willpower

“Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” - Muhammad “I am the greatest!” Ali.

You have to have a strong desire to succeed, and the will to carry you through the difficult times. You need to be willing to accept failure, learn the lesson it offers you, and move on.

Pump Prices for Fuel Reduced

Posted in General by User ImageMZaidee

Fuel PricesToday is a third time, petrol and diesel prices are reduced in Malaysia. The fuel prices have been reviewed on August 23 and September 24, 2008 previously. Compared with the old prices, it reduced up to 15%.

The current prices stand at MYR 2.30 per liter (USD 2.48 per gallon) for Petrol RON 97 and MYR 2.20 per liter (USD 2.37 per gallon) for Petrol RON 92 and Diesel.

It will provide some relief but will not have much impact as many doubt that prices of basic necessities would go down in tandem with the reduction.

Anyway, it is still good for us!

Here are 10 steps to save more than 20% on fuel:

1. A clean air filter will save you 10%.

2. Properly aligned tires will save you 10%.

3. A properly tuned engine will save you 4%.

4. Properly inflated tires will save you 2.8%.

5. Having a broken or missing gas cap can cost you 2 cents per gallon.

6. SLOW DOWN. Every 5mph (8 km/h) you reduce on the highway can reduce fuel consumption by 7%.

7. Smooth acceleration and deceleration can save you 33% on the highway and 5% in town.

8. For every 100lbs (45.4 kilogram) of extra weight you carry in your vehicle you loose 1-2%.

9. Don’t idle your engine. You can save 1 cent per gallon for every 2 minutes you don’t idle.

10. Don’t ride with your foot on the brake. You can save 35%.

Protect Your Password

Posted in General by User ImageMZaidee

Password is the first tool of defenses against intrusion in any computer system environment. Strong password will safeguard the security and confidentiality of information stored in the computer and network. A weak password can allow viruses to gain access to the computer and spread through the network. Computer that has been hacked can be used to send malicious message to everyone else on the network. However, many users don’t realize the importance of protecting their password.

It will be an individual responsibility to protect the password and to see that only you use the account. There are many ways on how you can protect your password. Use password that is difficult to guess; with the combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, symbols and numbers. The password should be more than eight characters long. Do not use password that is based on personal information that can be easily accessed and guessed. In addition, do not use “Remember Password” feature of applications. Using the automatic password fill in feature, imperil your information to malevolent individuals.

Your password must not be shared and revealed to others. Never tell anyone else your password; unfortunately many people divulge their password to others unconsciously. If your computer is in a public area or located in place that can be seen by other people, never write down your password except secured in locked cabinet or safe. Leaving your computer unattended without log off it, also will lead to jeopardize the integrity of the computer system and the network security.

What is Chikungunya Fever?

Posted in General by User ImageMZaidee

Aedes MosquitoChikungunya fever is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes aegypti and aedes albopictus mosquitoes. The disease is closely similar to dengue fever. As it usually co-occurs with dengue fever, it is often misdiagnosed. Hence the number of cases of chikungunya fever is much higher than that reported. High mosquito density during the post-monsoon season increases the disease’s transmission.

The symptoms of chikungunya include a sudden onset of fever; severe headache; chills; nausea and vomiting; and severe, sometimes persistent joint pain. The disease is generally not fatal. Some patients have reported temporary disabling joint pain or arthritis, which may last for weeks or months. The areas around the joints become swollen and painful to the touch. However, the prolonged joint pain and fatigue associated with chikungunya fever are not typical symptoms of dengue. A rash may sometimes occur, but haemorrhaging is rare.

How does it spread?

Aedes mosquitoes, which are highly domestic in rural, urban and periurban areas, are vectors of this disease. They bite during the day and are easily recognized by the black and white stripes/spot markings on their bodies and legs. They breed easily in anything that can hold clean water including tyres, coconut shells, flower pots, storage jars and cooling systems. The eggs become adults within a span of seven to ten days. The mosquitoes rest inside, outside and around the house, school and other areas in towns and villages where it is dark, cool and shaded.

It is reported 1,330 chikungunya fever cases in Malaysia this year. One of them is me!

I’m Back to Business

Posted in General by User ImageMZaidee

It is hard to maintain any blog when good health is not on your side.

I’ve been down by chikungunya fever. And few days after that, my eldest daughter and my son got dengue fever.

My son has been placed and monitored in the intensive care unit (ICU) or critical care unit (CCU) since his blood platelet was very low. We almost lost him.

A normal platelet count in a healthy person is between 150,000 and 400,000 per mm³ (microlitre) of blood. His platelet was 21,000 per mm³ only. It took lots of bag of platelet concentrate and fresh frozen plasma (FFP) to get his platelet back to normal.

Alhamdulillah (Thanks God)! Everyone is O.K. now. We are back to normal!
