Haifa Wehbe - The Lebanese Diva

Posted in Beauty, Entertainment by MZaidee

Haifa Wehbe

Haifa Wehbe was born on March 10, 1976, in Mahrouna, South Lebanon. Growing up in Beirut, Wehbe enjoyed listening to jazz and R&B music. She got an early start in modeling, and was crowned “Miss South Lebanon” by the time she was sixteen. In 1995, nineteen-year-old Wehbe was runner-up in the Miss Lebanon competition; a title that was later revoked when it was discovered that she was married, had a daughter, and therefore did not qualify as a “Miss.”

A year later, Wehbe started modelling for several magazines, and soon after released her first album, It is Time. In 2005, she released her second album, I Want to Live, featuring the successful single “Hayat Albi.” It was followed up with her signature hit song, “Ana Haifa (I am Haifa).” On June 10, 2006, Haifa performed as an opening act for 50 Cent, at his first concert in Lebanon.

In addition to being known for her stunning looks, Wehbe also has a reputation for being catty and hypocritical with other women, especially when criticizing them for wearing revealing clothing. Wehbe, however, is no stranger to exposure herself. At the 2004 London Lebanese Fashion show, Wehbe sported a skin-tight dress that stole the spotlight from the show’s models, who seemed conservative in comparison. In March 2006, a video of her dress coming undone reportedly hit the internet and went straight into cyber-circulation, creating a scandal in her home country. Her management later stated that the video was fabricated and “not worth worrying about.”

Outside of show business, Wehbe has become engaged in designing her own line of diamond jewelry, as well as being a spokesmodel for Pepsi.

Sammi Cheng – Queen of Canto-pop

Posted in Beauty, Entertainment by MZaidee

Sammi Cheng

Known for her versatility and ability to adapt to different genres of music, TV program or movie, what sets this Hong Kong Queen of Canto-pop apart from the crowded Canto-pop scene in the early 90s was her fast and catchy upbeat songs.

She also underwent a complete image transformation in 1993, which fitted perfectly with her then new single, a remake of a fast-beat Japanese song.

A couple of years later, she crossed over from Capital Artists to Warner Music. This proved to be her big break to penetrate the huge Mandarin speaking market. Her first Mandarin album, ‘Worthwhile’ was an instant success, selling more than 300,000 copies in Taiwan alone.

Throughout her career, Sammi Cheng has garnered a string of music awards and even some film awards for her songs, featured in films such as ‘Needing You…’ and ‘Love on a Diet’. And it is certainly hard to take your eyes off this lovely diva as she appears in film like ‘Infernal Affairs’, ‘Magic Kitchen’, ‘Enter the Phoenix’, ‘Needing You…’, ‘Everlasting Regret’ , to name a few.

Considered one of the most bankable artistes in Asia, she will be playing a senior inspector alongside other superstars like Eason Chan and Richie Ren in her latest film ‘Investigate Her’. The film is scheduled for release next month.

Besides gracing the silver screen and stages, Sammi is also the face and spokesperson of popular watch maker Titus.

Catch her next performance at Genting Highland, Malaysia on September 26 and 27, 2008. Click Here.

Hentai – The Sexy Anime

Posted in Culture, Entertainment by MZaidee

Hentai

Hentai perhaps the most infamous anime genre – is known to be the darkest side of anime. Uneducated, non-Japanese people believe that all anime is hentai, or pornographic. This is a very common misconception along with the belief that anime is just for children. In Japan, hentai literally means perverted or a pervert. Other names for hentai are H-anime and eroanime.

Atomic BloggingJapan has a different understanding about the line between adult content and mainstream works than the United States and other countries; nudity is not as forbidden in Japan as it is in other cultures. They have communal bathing and in most anime they depict naked people, but not pornographically. For example, in Sailor Moon, the Sailor Scouts as they transform are nude, but no detail is shown.

According to Wikipedia, “The H material tends to use explicit pornographic content. As a form of expressing sexual fantasy, depictions can include those that are unacceptable in society, or run counter to social norms. Such fantasies can be depicted in the extreme, often demonstrating subconscious desires or purely carnal motivations. This contrast between accepted and in some cases legal behavior and primal sexuality is a primary motivation for many works of pornography, and H art is no exception.”

An example of hentai is the well-known La Blue Girl. Watch them here!
