Sammi Cheng – Queen of Canto-pop

Posted in Beauty, Entertainment by MZaidee

Sammi Cheng

Known for her versatility and ability to adapt to different genres of music, TV program or movie, what sets this Hong Kong Queen of Canto-pop apart from the crowded Canto-pop scene in the early 90s was her fast and catchy upbeat songs.

She also underwent a complete image transformation in 1993, which fitted perfectly with her then new single, a remake of a fast-beat Japanese song.

A couple of years later, she crossed over from Capital Artists to Warner Music. This proved to be her big break to penetrate the huge Mandarin speaking market. Her first Mandarin album, ‘Worthwhile’ was an instant success, selling more than 300,000 copies in Taiwan alone.

Throughout her career, Sammi Cheng has garnered a string of music awards and even some film awards for her songs, featured in films such as ‘Needing You…’ and ‘Love on a Diet’. And it is certainly hard to take your eyes off this lovely diva as she appears in film like ‘Infernal Affairs’, ‘Magic Kitchen’, ‘Enter the Phoenix’, ‘Needing You…’, ‘Everlasting Regret’ , to name a few.

Considered one of the most bankable artistes in Asia, she will be playing a senior inspector alongside other superstars like Eason Chan and Richie Ren in her latest film ‘Investigate Her’. The film is scheduled for release next month.

Besides gracing the silver screen and stages, Sammi is also the face and spokesperson of popular watch maker Titus.

Catch her next performance at Genting Highland, Malaysia on September 26 and 27, 2008. Click Here.
